Read the Damien strip with your class

Father Damien became a national icon after his death in 1889, as evidenced by his election as the Greatest Belgian. His solidarity - across borders of nationality, skin color, faith and philosophy - still serves as inspiration. But how did the path of Jozef De Veuster, a young priest from Tremelo, lead to Molokai, where he stood up as a human rights activist avant la lettre for the sick who had been expelled from society?

In the comic strip Drawn Damiaan Bart Maessen and Ruben Boon tell the unlikely story of Damien's journey, from Tremelo via Leuven and Paris to the Hawaii Islands. Jan Bosschaert illustrated their story in an inimitable way. This Damien strip is an indispensable source of inspiration for young and old.
