Preventive home visits: Podcast We bridge the gap

The relationship that young people have with education does not stop when the school bell rings at four o'clock. A partnership with parents is crucial if we want more young people to graduate with a diploma or qualification.

Bridge figures such as Joke Waelput, who are coached from the Ghent Education Center by Nathalie Van Wassenhove, can play a role. Through preventive home visits, they learn more about the home context of new students from the first grade. Melissa Lurquin, care coordinator and teacher at KTA-GITO Groenkouter, explains how this knowledge helps to involve parents and better guide students. Student Ceyda and her father testify about the role that bridge figure Joke played for them.

After listening to this episode you will know why it is important to bridge the gap between family and school, how a preventive home visit contributes to this and what the added value of this visit is for family and school team.
