Literary building blocks of a filmed story: Processing exercise - Campus Nederlands 2

These Book widgets are about the literary building blocks of a filmed story. The material is consistent with the learning workbook plus, more specifically with the learning material from part 2, lesson 19.

Initial situation

  • The students know descriptive, summarizing, chronological and comparative text contexts.
  • The students know which parts of speech are used in the descriptive context (nouns, concrete and precise verbs, etc.)
  • The students know the distinction between fiction and non-fiction.
  • The students know different text forms, such as (children's) book, film, review...
    • Using the frameworks in the workbook and a diagram, the concepts of character (main character, antagonist, secondary characters), time and space are explained.
    • The students then watch the film Matilda from 1996. While watching, they write down in a kind of brainstorm everything that strikes them about characters, time and space (they use descriptive and enumerative contexts for this).
    • The students then complete the Book widgets exercise, which also includes a reading excerpt from Roald Dahl's book.
    • The students answer questions about the literary building blocks, make a comparison between the fragment from the book and how it is staged in the film (they use the comparative context for this).
