EDUbox social media: Educational tool from VRTNWS

The EDUbox Social media investigates why young people spend hours on social media. He also exposes the mechanisms built into the various social media, examines the positive and negative consequences social media can have and gives tips on how to deal with it more consciously.

This EDUbox was created in collaboration with Mediawijs , WAT WAT and Pimento .

  • In this EDUbox, students first consider the multitude of social media.
  • Through some brain hacks, students discover how easily their brains can be deceived.
  • Young people learn the three principles on which social media is based: social affirmation, personalized content and reward. This allows them to be more aware of social media.
  • What is the impact of social media on our mind and body? Are the consequences as negative as critics claim? In the exercise 'Fact or fable?' students pursue the truth.
  • Even more action and interaction: In a self-test, students discover how attached they are to social media. And what about their classmates? The way young people use social media can sometimes make them feel less good. That is why it is important to find a good balance between the online and offline world, says Professor Lieven De Marez (University of Ghent) in a video.
  • Tools that can help young people to be more aware of social media.
