Plugstreet 14-18 Experience: Interpretation Center WWI

For 4 years, Komen-Waasten was badly hit by the Great War. Today this sad past is still commemorated in numerous places. The Interactive Interpretation Center Plugstreet 14-18 Experience presents a moving and unprecedented picture of the tragic events that particularly affected the southernmost area of the Ypres front.

Plugstreet 14-18 Experience reminds one with emotion, but also the suffering, the British and German military losses, the insecurity of the population confronted with the occupation, the exodus and so much more.

Exceptional iconographic documents illustrate the dangerous and difficult society of soldiers and civilians. Other documents show relaxation, friendship, fraternization and the surprising Christmas peace of December 1914, in Sint-Yvon (Warneton).

The educational vocation of the Interpretation Center is indisputable. The concise description of the events and an interactive approach are integrated in a beautifully structured timeline. The specialized guides and the educational guidance are added value during the commemoration and stimulate the debate among the public (both adults and pupils). Temporary exhibitions and targeted events add added value to the visit. They play an important role in the context of the commemoration of the Great War.
