SeArch: Archaeological Heritage in the North Sea

The SeArch project aims to map the marine archaeological archive, with two goals:

  1. The development of a fast and high-quality methodology for estimating the archaeological potential of work-affected areas at sea and in the coastal zone. This concerns both existing conventional techniques as well as new and adapted techniques.
  2. The preparation of a clear policy and a good legal framework with regard to the marine archaeological heritage. The legal framework must guarantee the proper management of valuable heritage, but must not stand in the way of appropriate economic exploitation of the North Sea.

On the website you will find downloadable (research) reports:

  • Prehistoric research of the European Continental Shelf.
  • An interactive timeline, with which you can discover how the coastline changes over time due to sea level changes.
  • The underwater heritage of the Great War.
