Media literacy: Learning path

The Media Literacy Learning Line summarizes which media literacy competencies an average child should develop at every age. She gives substance to the final objectives and curricula according to the framework of the Mediawijs Competency Model. A teacher still chooses his own focus depending on the target group he has in mind.

The learning path provides an overview of the most important media learning objectives linked to the key competencies and the final objectives. Links were also made with the ZILL goals*, the goals of the GO! Media curriculum and the common ICT curriculum, and finally the foundation curriculum. We advocate integrating media literacy as much as possible across different subjects.

Use the learning path as a practical instrument with your school team to:

  • flesh out your media vision and policy;
  • select lesson content and teaching materials;
  • organize media-related activities and excursions.

In the ZILL goals, the concept of media literacy is interpreted differently than what is envisioned in this learning path.
