G4: Simulation game about municipal politics

This surprising simulation game about municipal politics starts with recreating your own municipality. The players place roads, watercourses, churches, houses, playgrounds, cinema, shops ... on the map of the municipality.

Then the students play a city council. They are members of four fictitious parties, each of which tries to make its mark on the policy of the municipality. They face a number of problems in the municipality to which they must respond in accordance with their party program.

The decisions of the city council are made visible on the playing map. While playing, the students become better acquainted with the powers of a municipality. They practice all kinds of communication skills and democratic attitudes:

  • listen to each other;
  • working out a solution together;
  • argue;
  • respect each other's opinion;
  • ...

The party that contributes the most to the prosperity and well-being of all residents has a chance to win the most votes and the sash of mayor.

The aim is to bring the politics of the municipality closer to the young people and to give the young people insight into the powers and tasks of the municipality and into the decision-making process.
