Sleutelcompetentie: burgerschap
De burgerschapscompetentie bestaat uit zeven bouwstenen.
Identiteit
In de eerste bouwsteen staat het concept identiteit centraal. De kenmerkende dynamiek en gelaagdheid van (eigen) identiteiten komen aan bod. Daarnaast gaat de aandacht naar de impact van identiteit op relaties. De leerlingen onderscheiden zowel persoonlijke identiteit als groepsidentiteit en onderzoeken hoe verschillende lagen van identiteiten elkaar beïnvloeden aan de hand van concepten zoals verbondenheid, solidariteit, discriminatie en wij-zij-denken.
Diversiteit in de klas
De tweede bouwsteen betreft het omgaan met diversiteit in het samenleven en samenwerken. Hierbij horen basisvaardigheden zoals constructief denken en handelen op basis van wederkerigheid en gepast reageren op uitsluitingsgedrag. De leerlingen leren daarbij kritisch reflecteren over de voordelen en de uitdagingen verbonden aan diversiteit. Ook de mechanismen achter onverdraagzaamheid, discriminatie en racisme komen hier aan bod, zowel op basis van historische als actuele voorbeelden.
Leerlingen gaan in dialoog
De volgende bouwsteen omvat het geïnformeerd, beargumenteerd en constructief in dialoog gaan met elkaar. Leerlingen komen op voor hun eigen opvattingen en belangen. Ze leren hoe ze hun eigen mening kunnen onderbouwen en goed kunnen argumenteren. Ze leren het onderscheid maken tussen feiten en mening, realiteit en fictie. Ze leren ook hoe ze drogredeneringen kunnen doorprikken.
Deel zijn van onze samenleving
De vierde bouwsteen betreft het actief participeren aan de samenleving, rekening houdend met de rechten en plichten van iedereen binnen de rechtsstaat. De leerlingen ontwikkelen hierbij het vermogen om zich voor de publieke zaak in te zetten, om solidariteit aan de dag te leggen en belangstelling te tonen voor het oplossen van problemen die een plaatselijke of grotere gemeenschap raken. Daarbij krijgen de leerlingen kennis mee over de rol en verantwoordelijkheden van individuen en groepen zoals vrijwilligers, verenigingen en middenveldorganisaties. Ook leren ze over inspraak, participatie en besluitvorming.
Aandacht voor duurzaamheid
Leerlingen moeten ten vijfde ook inzicht hebben in de wederzijdse invloed tussen maatschappelijke domeinen en ontwikkelingen en de impact ervan op de (globale) samenleving. Belangrijk hierbij is dat leerlingen inzicht krijgen in de complexiteit en verwevenheid van duurzaamheidskwesties. Daarbij gaan leerlingen kritisch reflecteren over duurzame ontwikkeling en de methodiek van systeemdenken toepassen op duurzaamheidskwesties. De beoogde attitude is het handelen met het oog op duurzame ontwikkeling.
Leren over ons politiek systeem
Daarnaast komt democratische besluitvorming op lokaal, nationaal en internationaal niveau onder de aandacht. Het gaat hier over de organisatie en werking van het politieke systeem. Thema’s die hier aan bod komen zijn overheden en macht, breuklijnen en ideologieën, politieke partijen en verkiezingen. Ook besteden de leerlingen aandacht aan de randvoorwaarden om te kunnen spreken van democratische besluitvorming, zoals transparantie en persvrijheid.
Belang van democratie
Met de laatste bouwsteen krijgen leerlingen inzicht in de democratische principes en de democratische cultuur. De focus ligt hierbij op mensen- en kinderrechten, sociale rechtvaardigheid, de welvaartsstaat, de rechtsstaat en de werking van het rechtssysteem.
